When individuals request their own consultation
Most occupational health assessments happen because an employer refers someone. But you can also request your own consultation directly, without waiting for a management referral, or in addition to one.
- You want an independent opinion before agreeing to a workplace decision
- You're preparing for a grievance, appeal or employment tribunal and need supporting evidence
- Your employer doesn't have an occupational health provider, or you'd rather not use theirs
- You want clarity on your own fitness for work, or for a specific licence or role, before applying
What to expect
A consultation starts with a confidential discussion about your situation and the relevant health information. Depending on what you need, that may be enough on its own, or it may lead into a fuller assessment (for example a fitness-for-work assessment) with a written report at the end.
You control what happens to any report. If you're asking for one to share with an employer, a tribunal or another organisation, what it says is agreed with you before it's sent anywhere.
