Workplace Adjustments & Sickness Absence Support

Practical recommendations on workplace adjustments and sickness absence, grounded in a proper occupational health assessment rather than generic HR guidance.

Most sickness absence and adjustment questions are really the same question: what, specifically, would help this person do their job safely, and for how long? Generic advice rarely answers that. A proper assessment looks at the individual role, the individual health issue, and what is realistically achievable.

This isn't a separate clinical service, it's the practical output of a management referral or consultation: recommendations you can actually put in place, phrased so HR and the line manager can act on them without guessing.

Who this is for

  • Employers managing a long-term or recurring sickness absence case
  • Managers who have received a report and need help interpreting the recommendations
  • HR teams considering reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act
  • Employees returning to work after illness or injury who need a phased plan

What's included

Following an assessment, recommendations typically cover practical adjustments (phased return, altered duties, equipment, hours), an indication of likely timescales where these can be reasonably estimated, and a review point if the situation is ongoing. Where useful, we'll talk the recommendations through with HR or the line manager directly.

The difference
The clinician who carries out your assessment makes the clinical judgement and writes the report, so the reasoning behind it is genuine, not templated.
Questions

Workplace Adjustments & Sickness Absence Support FAQs.

Is this a separate appointment from a management referral?
No. Workplace adjustment and absence-management advice normally comes out of a management referral or consultation, it isn't a separate clinical assessment.
Can you recommend adjustments without seeing the workplace?
Often yes, based on a clear description of the role and duties, though for some roles a short on-site visit gives a more precise recommendation.
What if the employee disagrees with the recommendations?
The report reflects clinical judgement on fitness for work, not a negotiated outcome. If there is disagreement, that is a matter for the usual HR process, informed by the report.
