Questions

Everything you need to know.

Still unsure? Ask us anything

What is an occupational health consultation?
A confidential discussion, usually with a short assessment, that looks at how a health condition affects someone's ability to work and what might help. It can be requested by an employer (a management referral) or directly by an individual.
When should an employer make a management referral?
Common triggers include long-term or frequent short-term sickness absence, a health issue affecting performance or safety, a return to work after illness or injury, or before a disciplinary process where health may be a factor.
How long does it take to get a report?
Timescales are confirmed when your consultation is booked and depend on the type of assessment. We'll give you a clear timeframe up front rather than a generic promise.
Who pays for an occupational health assessment?
For a management referral, the employer normally arranges and pays for the assessment. Individuals requesting their own consultation arrange and pay for it directly.
Can occupational health recommend workplace adjustments?
Yes. Where relevant, a report includes practical recommendations on adjustments, phased return, altered duties or equipment, for the employer to consider.
Is what I discuss confidential?
Yes. Medical information is confidential. Where a report is shared with an employer, what it contains is explained and, in most cases, agreed with you beforehand.
